The Yuletide Angel by Sandra Ardoin

Comforting books are not something I normally read, but this book sounded so good and so sweet that I had to read it. Victorian setting? Check. Low stress but still contains mystery? Check. Readable outside of the Christmas season? Check. And surprisingly enough, along with all this, the author achieves good character development, enough subplot to keep me interested in more than just the main plot line, and an addictive, natural writing style. I also felt that the book moved quickly and didn’t waste any time, but it also didn’t rush. It was perfectly paced.
I found myself reading this whenever I got stressed at work because it helped to calm me and comfort me. I have only read one other book series that can do that, so it’s very rare for me.
Although the book is inspirational (read: Christian themes), I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the messages in it. Where they were placed, they naturally fit – nothing was just stuck in there to make a point. It just seemed to flow with the characters and the story. So even if you’re not Christian or you don’t normally read inspirational fiction, you will easily enjoy this book.
The Yuletide Angel was so enjoyable that I had to stop myself from reading too much of it at once because otherwise I knew I would finish it in 1-2 days. I had to force myself to spread it out over multiple days, and I was glad I did so that I could really savor it. This is a keeper for me, something I would read again, and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
