This was an outstanding dark take on classic fairy tales! I ate it right up and enjoyed every last second of it. AF Stewart has a knack for leaving enough of the fairy tales intact to tell what it is while at the same time re-crafting it to create something new. You have *never* read these takes on these stories.
Each story is detailed but not overly so – there really aren’t any boring parts. Everything lends itself to the point of the story or an important bit of ambience to set the scene or the mood. The book as a whole moves along very quickly because of this.
I found it hard to predict what would happen in each story. There were so many surprises and twists!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dark retellings and re-craftings of classic fairy tales. If you like Grimm’s fairy tales, this book is most definitely for you!
