What We See When We Read
What We See When We Read by Peter Mendelsund
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Every writer should read this book. I’ve never read a book that describes what readers really see when you describe characters, locations, etc. and it not only makes sense, but it has equipped me to write right to the reader’s visual core. Now I understand what really counts when you describe things, what the readers really siphon out of it. It’s fascinating! And it all makes sense since I’m a very aware reader and recognized every single thing he said as truth. And all of this was done in a very visual way, keeping you interested and literally showing you what the reader sees. Bravo, Mendelsund. This level of lit theory is above and beyond!
